April Musing
This month’s
musing is contributed by Revd. Tim Bell, Vicar of Wick.
Easter is ‘Eggstra- ordinary.’
The most popular Easter egg is the Cadbury
crème egg. Over 300 million are made every year. The Cadbury
crème egg factory ‘lays’ 66,000 eggs per hour,
1.5 million eggs a day. But why eggs at Easter?
They represent the Christian hope of new life.
Jesus died out of love for us so that we can have forgiveness and
new life. Through Jesus our relationship with God comes alive. We
have all done things that separate us from God and each other. Jesus’
death was not defeat but victory. On the cross He took our sin and
the punishment we deserve to open up the way for us to have forgiveness
and a living relationship with God.
The joy of Easter is that death could not hold
Jesus. The tomb is empty. He is alive. The question is do we have
this life in us? As you look at your Easter egg you know that within
its wrapping is the hope of chocolate. To enjoy it we need to receive
it, unwrap it, and then make it a part of us as we eat it. You can
know a lot about the Christian faith, even come to church from time
to time, but like the egg, to really enjoy it you need to receive
it and make it part of you, As you enjoy your Easter egg I invite
you to consider afresh the Christian message of forgiveness and new
life that is offered to you. If you are interested to know more you
will always be welcome in any church or chapel. Why not come and learn
about the God who loves and only wants the best for us.
A very happy Easter to you all.
