THE WAY AHEAD
The world’s best selling book is the
Bible, yet it is probably one of the most neglected and unread books
there is. A Bible in pristine condition indicates how little it is
used, and there are many pristine Bibles around. It is much better
to have a dog eared, worn and underlined book which indicates much
use. Too few Christians discipline themselves to read a portion of
scripture every day, yet this is as essential to our spiritual growth
as food is to our physical well being, and we all now how much of
that we need! A passage or verse which previously meant nothing will
suddenly become alive and relevant to us. One way God speaks to us
is through Scripture. That is why it is often referred to as God’s
word.
Here is an example. Recently I came across
this verse in Jeremiah Chapter 6 verse 16
‘Thus says the Lord. Stand at the crossroads
and look, and ask for the ancient paths where the good way lies, and
walk in it, and find rest for your souls.’
This is good practical advice. There are occasions
in life when we stand at crossroads and contemplate the way ahead.
What better advice than this from the ‘good book’, and
there is much more. So take down your Bible, dust it off, open it
up and read and ponder on the truths it contains.
