THE WAY AHEAD
Three lanes of traffic on the A38 Expressway
were at a standstill and stretched for about 2 miles as the result
of a serious accident. The accumulation of police cars and piles of
debris including personal belongings told their own sickening story.
Two people had been killed, a teen aged boy and a young woman. A car
load of five had set out for Plymouth that morning never dreaming
that two of them would never arrive. It is a good job we cannot see
into the future although there may be occasions when we wish we could.
With hindsight we think ‘if only I knew then what I know now
I would not have said or done that.’
There is a common belief that everything that
happens to us is pre ordained or planned. This is not entirely so
because God has given us freedom of will to choose what we will do.
So we in fact have some control over what happens. I do believe however
that God has planned the way ahead for each one of us if we listen
to Him and choose to follow it. It may not be easy, but we are promised
enough strength for each step of the way. The trouble is that we prefer
to do things our own way and blame God when things go wrong.
When Joshua succeded Moses as leader of the
Israelites God gave him wonderful words of assurance which speak to
us as well. ‘Be strong and of a good courage; be not frightened
or dismayed , for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’
Or as the words of a lovely hymn put it,
‘So as I face tomorrow
With its problems large and small,
I’ll trust the God of miracles
Give to Him my all. ‘
God bless you each one as you step into the
future.
